One word of caution: Most of the time when an
untrained person gets involved in dryer repairs he has a great chance
of creating a "basket of disassembled parts" -- where
your dryer is a mess of parts that the dryer repair technician must
then reassemble before he can even check what the trouble is. Only
once he has put the dryer back together can he repair the original
problem. This, of course, ends up costing you more for the same
repair. In addition, if you get involved in dryer repairs which
you are not familiar and experienced with, it can be dangerous.
This is because you deal with electricity and mechanical systems,
so you can easily injure yourself. The information bellow is only
for educational purpose and we don’t advise anyone to do your
own dryer repair. For professional help call us to schedule your

Keeping clothes dryers on the job
The automatic clothes dryer is fast becoming standard equipment
in American homes. Merchandising Week estimated a few years ago
that 25 million homes were equipped with dryers. That was almost
60 percent of the total wired homes at the time. In 1973 well over
4 million new dryers were sold. There are valid reasons for the
popularity of the dryer. The saving in time is important to today's
homemakers. The changes in clothing and in textiles make the dryer
much more useful than ever before. The advent of today's sensitive
controls and refined equipment allows taking the clothes out of
the dryer looking like new. A modern dryers actually treats clothes
so gently that it's claimed the life of the fabrics actually prolonged.
The dryer is a pleasant appliance to work with. Most complicated
are easily reached for servicing and testing, although there are
o little tricks that will help you through some seemingly rough
you will see.
HOW IT WORKS
Regardless of the brand and type of machine you own, its components
provide three functions common to all dryers heat, :lit him and
tumbling action. Heating the air causes it to absorb more moisture
is carefully controlled. Too little will lengthen the drying time
and may damage the clothing. A second method of driving the drum
uses pulleys at the rear of the dryer. A V-belt drives an idler
pulley which in turn drives a pulley that is attached to the hub
of the drum. Two belts are used with this method. The idler is spring-loaded
to maintain tension on both belts.
When replacing dryer belt of the machine using the two-belt system,
check pulleys for tight fit and proper alignment. Check the condition
idler shaft and bearing if it seems tight when you turn it'll have
too much play. Be sure to look closely if a hell has to be replaced
and see that all pulleys turn freely.
Be sure to obtain belt that is an exact replacement. The wrong one
could increase drum speed. To check the dryer speed, open the top
of your dryer. Remove the screws from the lint filter and any other
screws anchoring the top. Turn the switch to air position. Press
a piece of masking tape to the drum and turn the dryer on, avoiding
contact with electrical connections. Count each revolution of the
tape for a minute and you can count the drum speed. It should be
between 45 and 55 rpm. Squeaks and thumping noises are signs of
belt looseness inspection can often prevent failure. Hearings are
usually sleeve or roller, sealed and lubricated for not limit use.
Clean and lubricate them if removed for any repair. Follow the manufacturer's
recommendations for lubrication of plastic surfaces. Plastic bearings
which are used as support rim laces, at the front of a dryer drum
for instance, are usually lubricated with I unrelated 202 or its
equivalent. Use special care when handling plastic or bearings,
and make sure that no grit or residue when they are reinstalled.
