One word of caution: Most of the time when an
untrained person gets involved in dishwasher repairs he has a great
chance of creating a "basket of disassembled parts" --
where your dishwasher is a mess of parts that the dishwasher repair
technician must then reassemble before he can even check what the
trouble is. Only once he has put the dishwasher back together can
he repair the original problem. This, of course, ends up costing
you more for the same repair. In addition, if you get involved in
dishwasher repairs which you are not familiar and experienced with,
it can be dangerous. This is because you deal with electricity and
mechanical systems, so you can easily injure yourself. The information
bellow is only for educational purpose and we don’t advise
anyone to do your own dishwasher repair. For professional help call

What You Should Know About Automatic Dishwasher
Chances are about 50-50 that your automatic dishwasher is giving
the service it could. It may be washing the dirty dishes, but not
the way it should (or could). A representative of a top maker of
dishwashers says their records disclose that 45 to 50 percent of
all service calls involve factors not related to equipment defects
or failures.
The faults are related to the environment in which the dishwasher
operates.
The dishwasher is far more sensitive to outside influences practically
any other home appliance. The water may not be hot enough. There
may not be enough of it. The detergent may have been on the shelf
too long. Any or all of these can have a detrimental upon the operation
of the dishwasher.
Testing the environmental factors ought to precede any repair. In
fact, you may want to test your dishwasher even though it seems
to operating satisfactorily. First, however, you should understand
the basic principles of automatic dishwashing.
A dishwasher works by making use of water pressure, heat, and chemical
actions. An impeller or high-speed pump and spray min produce the
water pressure. The force of the water scrubs the dissolve with
hot water and detergent solution, loosening soil and flushing away.
A heating element, normally energized throughout the cycle, maintains
the temperature. Detergent is added automatically during each wash
period.
Dishes usually are dried by the heating element that maintains temperature
or by a small heater located outside the dishwasher within an air
duct.
With the final rinse water pumped out, the heater raises the temperature
within the machine and the heated air absorbs moisture. Since the
dishwater is vented to room air, air flow occurs within the dishwasher,
foreign particles or by a thin film of algae. Remove and clean the
dishwasher under running water, using a small brush to be sure that
every trace of foreign matter is removed. An old toothbrush is ideal
for this purpose.
A small washer built into the inlet valve of many dishwashers as
a water-pressure regulator, reducing the water pressure to a specific
level to provide constant fills. If dishwasher is damaged, or brittle
it has an effect on the amount of water entering into the machine.
Dishwashers use the "timed-fill" method for getting water
into tile machine; any water-level switches are usually intended
only lo prevent overflow. Don't attempt to adjust these to control
water level,
Check your detergent. Dishwasher detergent is a highly alkaline
compound formulated to loosen all types of food soil, to keep at
a minimum, and to act as a wetting agent. It is quite unstable compared
to other household detergents and has a short shelf life as little
as two weeks after the foil wrapper is broken, depending on temperature
and humidity. Watch for torn or cut outer wrappers when buying detergent.
Close the pouring spout after using.
If detergent becomes caked it probably has passed its useful life
to test it, try the "two-by-two" test place two teaspoons
in of hot water (not under 140 degrees) and stir for two minutes.
If it gritty residue remains, the detergent is not satisfactory.
There's quite a bit of difference among various formulations 411
dishwasher detergents. II' you're not satisfied with the washing
results that you are getting, try another brand. Some brands walk
better in particular weather conditions than others. Never substitute
dishwasher detergent with dish soap.
